The Benefits of Pilates

By on Mar 27, 2016 in Blog |

The Benefits of Pilates   You’ve probably heard about Pilates years ago but simply got intimidated by having to work with a younger crowd, or having to stretch beyond your comfort zone. Whatever it may be that holds you back from actually enrolling in a Pilates class, now is the time to let it all go. You won’t know what you’re missing out on until you actually give it a try. So why should you take Pilates classes? The reasons are endless.   Pilates focuses in the development of a strong core. Your abdominal area is the core or center of your body. By developing strength in your abdominal muscles, you are automatically developing a stronger back. And with a good and healthy back, all other aches and pains in the rest of the body are minimized. By doing Pilates on a regular basis, you will be able to age gracefully and be free from back pain.   Unlike other workout routines that make your muscles bulkier, Pilates makes your muscles longer, leaner and more flexible. It’s not just about appearances. It is a fact that these shorter, bulkier muscles are more injury-prone. Longer and stronger muscles resulting from Pilates, however, help your muscles become more elastic and your joints more mobile. These strong and flexible muscles will keep injury at bay.   In addition, while these bulkier muscles are achieved through heavy and tiring work-outs, the longer and leaner muscles are achieved through the very gentle movements of Pilates. You won’t have to worry about straining yourself or getting exhausted after a session. On the contrary, you will feel rested, relaxed, calm yet energized after each Pilates session. Pilates is virtually safe. Expect to perform low-impact exercises in simple seated or reclined positions. With a bona fide Pilates guide and instructor, even otherwise hopeless injuries are given the chance for rehabilitation.   Do check out Creative Bodies with Pilates and enjoy the golden years of your life...

Mermaid Side Stretch for Flexibility

By on Jan 1, 2016 in Blog |

When you talk about Pilates, people tend to associate it with only calmness in mind, strength in body, and correct posture. However, there are great Pilates moves and postures that can increase flexibility. Body flexibility is critical for you in your day-to-day activities. It helps you reduce injury of muscles and tendons. Flexibility allows you do your exercises properly and avoid injuring yourself. A Pilates class in Gilroy, CA can offer an array of postures and moves that build your body flexibility. Here is how the mermaid side stretch can help you improve your flexibility.   To do the mermaid side stretch, you will need to sit on floor and have both legs folded to left side. In case, you are using the ball, you should start by rolling one side of torso over the larger ball followed by setting your feet up by balancing on the ball of one foot and sole of the other.   Ensure you make a connection of pelvis and ribs to allow you remain flat in your back and sacrum. This makes you look as if the torso is between two sheets of glass. On the ball, the arms will be gently raised over the head to allow for slight stretching and clasping of the wrist with one hand.   The support for this move will come from the abdominals and pelvis. As you extend from the left with the arm straight up above the head, keep the left shoulder down and away from the ear. Without hiking up your shoulder, bring the inside of arm closest to the ear.   Doing mermaid side stretch requires the use of a large ball. The move lengthens and opens your body’s sides. An exerciser needs to keep the breath flowing through the moves and posture of stretch. There is dynamic extending between stretch and breath. This movement can be used as a gentle warm up of the body or it may be a more intense stretch.   A large Pilates ball provides an extra dynamic stretch. Mermaid also helps your body scapula to settle into the back when you move the arms. Visit Creative Bodies With Pilates to get this and other kinds of Pilates...
